Annual Sandcastle Contest
This annual event is held at the beautiful Atlantic Avenue Beach and is made possible with the support of volunteers.
Registration begins at the tent on the beach at 10 am and final judging is at 3 pm.
Registration fee is $10 per group (limit 6). We accept cash, check, venmo and credit card!

The idea for this event came from The Clamshell Foundation founder, Rossetti Perchik, A.I.A., when he was living in Tulsa, Oklahoma and witnessed a Sandcastle Contest on the banks of the Arkansas River. After moving back to East Hampton in 1987, Perchik couldn’t imagine that with some of the best beaches in the world there wasn’t a Sandcastle Contest here. The concept was formulated in 1991, and the 1st Annual East Hampton Sandcastle Contest took place on August 26, 1992 at the Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett, NY.
Initially there weren’t any rules, but over the years it became clear that a few were needed!
Rules are only indigenous materials may be used in the sand sculptor, no power tools, DO NOT build in front of the lifeguard stands and DO NOT go into the dunes. Group limited is 6. From the very beginning $10 was charged for each group and it remains that way today with no charge for the spectators.
This event is inclusive of all ages and abilities!
